EHS Officer / Advisor
Based: Royston, Hertfordshire
Salary: up to £45,000 DOE plus Bonus & Benefits (Total Package Value of up to £60k+)
My client is an industry-leading chemicals manufacturer who is looking to recruit an EHS Advisor to join their in-house EHS team. Based at their busy manufacturing plant in Royston, Hertfordshire, you will be responsible for taking the lead in many EHS activities and proactively participate within the EHS team offering solutions to many situations as they arise and actively promote and support a positive EHS culture. You will be assisting the EHS Manager on all matters relating to the management of EHS within the plant facilities in accordance with EHS legislative requirements including COMAH. The EHS Advisor will deputise for the EHS Manager where appropriate, and this company offers excellent career progression opportunities, so this will be a stepping stone into team leadership and management. Attention to detail and the ability to effectively multitask is a crucial part of the job, therefore the ability to plan and organise workloads effectively is required.
Specific accountabilities will include:
- To provide advice, support and coaching to site. To deal with day to day EHS related operational issues, e.g. risk assessments and responding to general queries.
- To support the creation of, implement and delivery of the EHS plan and EHS Improvement Programme.
- Provide specialist advice for specialist safety programs and activities including human factors analysis, hazard studies, PHR's and LOPA.
- Assist with the preparations and management of the site emergency planning arrangements.
- To lead and carry out incident investigations as required.
- Undertake workplace inspections, Safe System of Work audits and behavioural observations to ensure correct practices are adhered to.
- Maintain and further develop Safe Systems of Work related to Permit to Work, Confined Space Entry, Isolation and Lock Off and Working at Height.
- Undertake internal audits in line with international standards
- Provide general EHS support and input to process safety assessments such as HAZOP
- Support the continued development of EHS policies and procedures
- Participate and lead EHS investigations
- Deliver internal EHS training
Required skills
- Minimum of a NEBOSH General Certificate or similar H&S Qualification
- Previous EHS experience / proven background in an industrial, process driven or engineering setting
- Working knowledge of ISO14001, OHSAS 18001, COMAH and Environmental Permitting
Applications are invited from candidates with knowledge of COMAH, REACH and Waste regulations. You may have worked in an EHS role or similar such as regulatory affairs or compliance. Those who have previously worked within a heavy manufacturing and/or high volume, process driven environments (i.e. automotive, chemical, FMCG, food, agro-chemical, pharmaceutical, refining, or similar) are desirable but this is not essential. Knowledge of CLP GHS would be very beneficial.
Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with external customers and internal stakeholders up to the highest level of the business.
