The emphasis for the successful candidate is on excellent management and organisational skills within a heavy manufacturing environment. Applications are invited from Engineering & Maintenance Managers / Team Leaders who have worked in high volume, process driven environments (i.e. chemical, food, agro-chemical, automotive, pharmaceutical, refining, or similar).

The main purposes of this role are: to lead, motivate and develop the onsite maintenance team (including Team Leaders, Technical Experts, Multi-skilled engineers and technicians); oversee running of maintenance function to ensure stakeholders and plant operations are supported; manage all resources related to maintenance to control costs and achieve value for money.

This role covers a full range of responsibilities and activities, including:

  • Responsibility for developing a positive and proactive Environmental, Health and Safety culture throughout the maintenance team including ensuring compliance with all EHS procedures (including correct use of PPE, incident recording and quality standards are followed)
  • Promoting the use of LEAN methodologies within the team and co-ordinating the use of resources and fully utilise the skills within the team to meet operation and maintenance needs
  • Building upon relationships with production staff (managers, team leaders and operatives) to facilitate both timely reporting of active issues and planning maintenance in order to reduce downtime of the plant
  • Continuing to develop a proactive rather than a reactive approach to maintenance
  • Ensuring your team and contractors perform to the standards demanded by the company, escalating any issues as necessary, including disciplinary action and identifying training requirements
  • Ensure maintenance team members have relevant skills to address all plant and equipment issues.
  • Efficiently manage requests to change / upgrade plant and equipment
  • Effectively manage and control maintenance spending, forecasting of expenditure, reviewing spends against allocated budgets, and assist business in meeting financial targets.
  • Lead team by example, demonstrating commitment and bringing about positive change
  • Identify and implement improvement, cost saving and sustainable opportunities.

This is a challenging role; the successful applicant will need to be flexible, determined and self-motivated, and technically competent. Previous experience of successfully leading a multi-skilled maintenance team within a 24/7 manufacturing environment is highly desirable. Regular liaison with Production Management, internal departments, contractors and HR means good communication and people skills are essential.
