I am working closely with my Bedfordshire-based client, a leading designer and manufacturer of specialist electro-mechanical equipment serving a global client base across a range of industries, to find a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their in-house Engineering Team.
This is an exciting time to be joining them as they are continuing to expand their product ranges, including into new markets, and the ongoing development of the next generation of products means that your ideas will turn into a reality.
Spanning both the R&D and NPD/NPI sections within the Engineering Team, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, will be responsible for leading a small team of CAD Engineers working on the development of new and existing products. You will be responsible for the mechanical aspects of new product development and product evolution involving the design of sheet metal enclosures, trolleys, skids, trailers and similar components for manufacture considering the necessary fabrication methods and tooling.
In addition, you will:
- Using FEA tools, you will perform structural analysis and airflow simulations for improved reliability and rapid prototyping.
- The production of engineering drawings to standards such as BS 8888 and manage these drawings accordingly with our manufacturing suppliers. You will also produce diagrams to demonstrate assembly and service procedures for products.
- Working on new prototype designs in a top-down and bottom-up design approach
- To work closely with the Power Electronics and Embedded/Electrical/Electronic Engineers within the team to continually develop and upgrade our products in a state of continued improvement.
- Liaising with other members of staff such as Production and Product Line Engineers to eliminate issues and streamline production operations.
In return they are willing to pay an attractive salary for the right candidate which will be negotiable based on experience, together with a clear career progression pathway within the company in the future.
Applications are invited from experienced Mechanical Design Engineers, Mechanical Designers, Industrial Designers, Product Designers and CAD Engineer with the following attributes:
- Degree qualified or equivalent in mechanical engineering or relevant technical discipline such as industrial design, product design, etc.
- Experience of sheet metal design and sheet metal manufacturing processes, with IP outdoor-rated weather-proof enclosures beneficial but not essential
- Successfully completed full lifecycle of products from concept through to final design and production
- Confident users of Solidworks, in particular for use with sheet metal design and FEA tools
We are keen to find mechanical engineers with a real passion for fine detail and a completer-finisher approach to design. You will need to be self-motivated to solve problems independently, as well as the ability work within and lead a technical team.
