Plant Production Manager

I am working closely with my world class manufacturing client to recruit a Plant Production Manager to lead production operations across their busy Manufacturing Plant in North London through strategic management. Following a significant restructuring of the production management team, this newly created role has been designed to bring together three different production departments which have up until now been operating in isolation despite them being intrinsically linked through the on-site processes and they are dependent upon each other to produce the products which leave site. The aim is to develop cross-departmental relationships for working collaboratively towards a common goal and the sharing of best practices.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the day to day running of the production departments, ensuring departmental objectives including production targets, costs, EHS, quality and safety standards are all adhered to. In addition, the successful candidate will work closely with the Plant Manager to deliver continuous improvement and develop a LEAN culture, and with the on-site Engineering Team regarding upgrades to plant equipment and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to minimise impact on production whilst maintaining the highest levels of H&S and compliance with regulatory requirements. There will also be close working required with Supply Chain and Commercial teams to set achievable sales and production strategies to meet customer needs for high quality products.

Applications are invited from production managers / operation managers / team leaders who have worked in high volume, process driven environments (i.e. chemical, food, agro-chemical, automotive, pharmaceutical, refining, or similar). The emphasis for the successful candidate is on excellent Management/Team Leader/Supervisory Skills within a heavy manufacturing environment.

Within your team, you will have a total of 140 reports (5 direct) with the rest being a mix of permanent and contract staff, and manage a budget in the region of £25M.

In summary, this is a challenging role; the successful applicant will need to be flexible, determined and self-motivated, and technically competent. Previous experience of successfully managing production teams within a 24/7 manufacturing environment is highly desirable. Regular liaison with Senior Management, internal departments, contractors and HR means good communication and people skills are essential.
